Born in Dublin, Geraldine began her career with the Abbey Theatre, where she was a member of the company from 1961 – 1966. During her time at the Abbey some of her favourite roles were Gwendolen in ‘THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST and Solange in ‘The MAIDS’.
Over the years, her performances have included the Mother in Tom Murphy’s ‘Famine’ (both on stage and Television), Mrs Brown in ‘DOWN ALL THE DAYS’ (adapted by Peter Sheridan from the book by Christy Brown), Mrs. Meehan in ‘TORCHLIGHT AND LASERBEAMS’ (the autobiographical play by Christopher Nolan), Mother Mercy in ‘CHILDREN OF THE EVE’ by Peter Sheridan, Mother Ruth in ‘AGNES OF GOD’, Aurelia Platt in ‘LETTERS HOME’, Sister Mary in ‘Journey to Knock’ and Una in ‘The FACTORY GIRLS’ by Frank McGuinness. Geraldine played Juno in the Gate Theatre’s production of ‘JUNO AND THE PAYCOCK’ at the Olympia Theatre and in Edinburgh, Jerusalem and Broadway. She has also appeared in ‘PILGRIMS’ and ‘BUDDLEIA’ by Paul Mercier (Passion Machine), ‘BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS’ by Neil Simon, ‘HOWLING MOONS’ and ‘SILENT SONS’ by Deirdre Hines (Pigsback), ‘THE REQUEST SHOW’ by Franz Xavier Kroetz (one woman show), ‘TRUE BELIEVERS’ (Fishamble), ‘THE HOUSE’ by Tom Murphy at The Abbey Theatre, ‘BEHAN HIMSELF’ directed by Michael Scott, ‘HUMMIN’, with Red Kettle Theatre Company, ‘CRABBED YOUTH AND AGE’ with Bewley’s Café Theatre, ‘SHORTS’ with Fishamble Theatre Company, Flora in ‘THE DESERT LULLABY’ with Galloglass Theatre Company, Gladys in ‘MANY HAPPY RETURNS’ at the Gate Theatre, Amanda in ‘THE GLASS MENAGERIE’ with Island Theatre Company, ‘VAGINA MONOLOGUES’ with City Theatre, Dublin, Chorus in ‘SUBMARINE’, Peggy in ‘DIRTY DUSTING’, ‘THE MATCHMAKER’ with City Theatre Dublin, ‘THIS IS A PLAY’ by Daniel MacIvor, at Bewley’s Café ‘FROZEN MUSIC’ with Ember Productions, ‘DEIRDRE’S SORROWS’ in the National Library, ‘GHOST STORIES’ at the Mill Theatre, ‘PINCHING FOR MY SOUL’ at the Focus Theatre, ‘WOMAN AND SCARECROW’ at the West Cork Summer Festival, ‘THE GODDESS OF LIBERTY’ at the Project Arts Centre, ‘ROOM FOR TWO’ at the Dolmen Theatre, an Irish Tour of ‘CREAKING’ and most recently ‘THE AFTERS’ at the Dolmen Theatre.
Geraldine has performed in many Television and Radio plays but is perhaps best known as Mary McDermott-Moran in ‘GLENROE’. Geraldine played Mrs. Fleming in the T.V. series ‘THE CLINIC’, Annette in the film ‘INSATIABLE’, Maggie in the film ‘8.5 HOURS’, Maura in the T.V. series ‘TRIVIA’, Ann in the TV series ‘NO OFFENCE’, Rose O’Brien in ‘FAIR CITY’ and most recently Lil in the short ‘KNICK KNACK’.
