Jim was born in Dublin and began his professional career in the Olympia theatre in 1958, in Illsley and McCabe’s production of The Remarkable Mr. Pennycracker. Since then Jim has played leading roles in all the major theatres North and South.
Theatre work includes Pat in Brendan Behan’s An Ghiall (for which he was awarded most noted performance of the year by the Evening Herald), Dublin the Long and the Short of It (his one man show), The Marble Madonna, The Dumb Waiter, Frankie and Johnny, As You Like It and The Country Boy.
Musicals include The Sound of Music, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Hearts A Wonder (the musical version of The Playboy of the Western World). Jim has also played in a number of pantomimes at the Gaiety Theatre.
Television work; Jim is best known for playing the role of Bella on RTE’s long running TV drama FAIR CITY since 1990. Other television work includes Tolka Row, Z Cars, Coronation Street, The Bill, Pair of Shoes (Par O Sgidiau), Inside, The Irish RM, Your Favourite Funnyman, The Price and A Careful Man.
Film work includes The Fantasist, War of the Buttons, Taffin, The Heirhunter and Fatal Inheritance.
